KYRIE
ELESION

"Kyrie & Helen "
I bought Kyrie out of my very first wage of my very first job when I was 17
years old, and thinking back I must of been crazy !!
There I was standing in the middle of this field full of wild Gypsy Vanners,
Welsh Cob mares and 1 beautiful Black Thoroughbred stallion,
and amongst all of these wild horses were all of their babies.
Well, I had 2 babies to choose from - 1 extremely well built bay filly and Kyrie.
I was to have first choice on one and a friend of mine that was with me was
going to have the other one.
I saw the well built filly move, and yes she was nice but she was going to be
huge and I'm not tall so I really didn't think that I could of coped with this
big wild filly on my own. Then I looked at Kyrie and she looked at me, we were
checking each other out and as I walked one step toward her, she would take a
step back.
At this stage I must admit I was doubting myself that I could do this with a
wild horse !.
Then I thought, why I am doubting myself ? - this was a challenge, and I could
do this !. Then I realized I hadn't seen her move, and so I clapped my hands and
oh my god could this filly move. Her head was tucked in and she floated across
that field, just like her Dad - and all the time he stood there all proud
overlooking his herd and watching us all the time. I was in love with this
filly, how could I not buy her ?? SO, I bought her but had to still wait 8 weeks
for her to arrive. I later found out that she wasn't weaned that well, just
chased from the field and into a horsebox and delivered to me. When she arrived,
the horsebox ramp was lowered and she just stood there totally bewildered and I
just looked at her and thought that from that day on I would reassure her that I
was going to make sure she was looked after forever !
We started training straight away with hours spent just sitting in her stable
waiting for her just to take a step towards me and it did happen, with time. She
seemed alot more wary than the well built filly that came with her, but I had
time and I was adamant she wasn't going to be pushed. We bonded and I eventually
broke her to ride and she has truly turned out to be a beautiful mare full of
confidence.
At the beginning she had a long road but she made it and I'm sure it made her
stronger and I am so pleased that she was the filly that I chose that day !
When we moved to the USA we decided that she would be looked after by a good
friend of mine Helen Alderton who has her on a full lease basis. I thought that
Kyrie could be just too high strung (like her thoroughbred father) to make a
trans-atlantic journey to America. Helen has continued to train her and
successfully compete on her in the jumping, dressage and showing rings and I
continue to wish them luck !
UPDATE - August 12th 2007
Today has been a very sad day at Jadehanna Ranch. My beautiful Kyrie Elesion was put down this morning. She unfortunately was foundering, and we weren’t sure what caused it, and not improving at all. Helen did all she can for Kyrie in the last couple of months but the Laminitis sadly won and now Helen is left without her Best Equine Friend! This was such a beautiful, kind mare and our hearts are just sunk with the loss of her. My only comfort is that she was SO well looked after and that my Best Equine Friend, Joss, would have met her at the Rainbow Bridge to escort her to greener pastures and I know that she is galloping and frolicking with him right now.
You were wonderful Kyrie and continue to be, and give Joss a kiss from me!!! We will all meet again someday XO.
Rest in Peace, Kyrie
